St. Isidore Cyber Program Kickoff

On Wednesday, March 4th the inaugural cohort of the St. Isidore Cyber Program gathered to kick off cyber studies at St. Mary’s High School. Mr. Kevin Nolten, Director of Academic Outreach at the Cyber Innovation Center, met with students, parents, faculty, and staff to discuss the importance of cyber education and the outlook for cyber careers.
“Cyber is now integrated into all of society,” he said. “Sure, you can pursue a career as a software designer or programmer with these skills. But even if you want to pursue a career as a lawyer, or a medical doctor, or an artist—having a foundational knowledge of cyber is sure to increase your marketability and understanding of today’s society…Your interest and skills in this field could ultimately better protect our country and create better policies for our connected world,” Mr. Nolten shared. Next, year all ninth grade students will take a required Cyber Literacy course at St. Mary’s. The group who attended this kickoff meeting will be taking the first-ever Honors Cyber Science course at the school. Qualified and interested students will continue to Honors Cyber Physics and AP Computer Science combined with a cyber field experience before graduating from the school with a cyber certificate.
