BE THE IMPACT--Saints in Action

Our eighth grade class was involved in a very special project to help a group of schoolchildren in India. We are so proud of our Saints being living examples of their faith to others by giving to those who have so little. We thank the Hupp family for providing the impetus and inspiration for this effort

One of our eighth graders, Laura Hupp, completed a missionary trip last summer to India. While there, she visited a slum school where she witnessed first hand the poverty the children faced and their lack of supplies and basic health needs.

On her return, she requested a meeting with Mrs. Zimmerman and Mrs. Hubbard and proposed to involve the eighth grade in a project to collect supplies for the school and their children.  It was a natural fit to make this a project for Ellie Geisen’s eighth grade class.

On November 19, the eighth grade watched a video of Laura and her group’s visit to India and the school which is located near Calcutta.  Mrs. Geisen and Mrs. Hubbard explained that as a class project, they would be reaching out to help the students in the school.

As part of the project, the class was given individual pictures and personal profiles of each child.  Our eighth grade students were paired with a student from the school.

Mrs. Hupp was kind enough to purchase backpacks and eighth graders are packing a personal letter, a prayer card, a handmade bracelet, basic school supplies and basic health needs that the students have collected.

All of this culminated with an out of uniform day  and all eighth grade students will be wearing t-shirts “BE HOPE ~ BE LOVE~BE READY” that symbolize this project. A dollar donation for the out of uniform will help to purchase any necessary needs that will also be packed into the backpacks and shipped to India.

After watching Laura’s video and seeing the children and the lives they lead, it truly makes you grateful.
