Mark Hartzell Joins St. Mary’s Parish as Chief of Staff

Annapolis, MD—St. Mary’s Parish is pleased to announce Mark Hartzell, a St. Mary’s High School alumnus (Class of 1978) has joined the parish as Chief of Staff. Hartzell previously served as the Chief Administrative Officer for Anne Arundel County where he was responsible for the leadership and management of the daily operation of 27 departments and approximately 4,000 employees.
 
As St. Mary’s Chief of Staff, Hartzell will be responsible for the management and support of the operations and administrative process for the overall parish, overseeing the church office, finance and accounting, human resources, advancement and alumni relations, facility management and communications. Hartzell will also serve as a main consultant to the pastor and provide support to parish clergy, the Pastoral & Finance Councils, the School Board and all organizations under St. Mary’s Pillars of Parish Life—spiritual, community, education and finance.

Hartzell brings to St. Mary’s over thirty years of management experience, having worked in leadership positions in government, global financial services and sales organizations. Most recently at Anne Arundel County government, Hartzell had direct oversight of all public safety, health and human services and land use departments, implementing the use of a $1.6 billion capital budget and $1.6 billion operating budget.

Prior to Anne Arundel County, Hartzell served as Executive Vice President for Computershare, Inc. At Computershare, he led the sales and marketing team consisting of over 60 U.S. based professionals and managed the sales distribution of 13 products while providing oversight for all internal and external communications. Hartzell has also served as the Managing Director of Global Sales and Client Management for JPMorgan Chase & Co., Senior Vice President for Citibank and Senior Vice President for U.S. Bancorp in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Hartzell is an alumnus of Beloit College where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in government with a minor in economics. He is also a member of the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship Class of 2016 and a board member for both the Anne Arundel County Food Bank and Anne Arundel Community College Foundation.
