St. Mary's High School's Señora Ellen Smith is one of two finalists for the 2019 Teacher of the Year for Independent Schools in Anne Arundel County!  Ellen has taught at SMHS for the past 10 years and she has educated students for the past 24 years.  Click here to view the press release from Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Ellen is a master teacher who makes Spanish fun and she embraces new challenges for her students all the time.  Her AP Spanish students regularly earn college credit with scores well above the minimum 3.  Ellen is our Spanish Exchange coordinator and Ellen supports our mission in a variety of ways, including chaperoning overnight retreats and leading our Foreign Language Department.  Ellen seeks out adopting new skills such as utilizing Apple Classroom and she models best practices among her colleagues.  Ellen’s recent trip to Rwanda, through Connect Rwanda, created an opportunity for Ellen to impact educators across the globe as well.  Ellen is the fifth teacher at St. Mary's High School that has been recognized for teaching excellence in the county.  We will find out at an event in April if she will earn the title of Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to Ellen Smith!
