Our 4th Grade Class had so much fun making these Santa's that will be arriving in their home soon! This is a long standing tradition in our art class and we hope you enjoy them as much as the students did making them.
St. Mary's students were invited to plant trees at another local Catholic school as part of Earth Care Day. Members of the Ambassdor Club and the Environmental Studies program participated in this wonderful stewardship opportunity.
Our Saints in Action filled 28 Backpacks of Love for the Blue Ribbon Project, started by a local police officer to provide backpacks full of essentials for children entering foster care.
Congratulations to Annabelle Hutchinson '17 and Joseph Lynch '17 for being named Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.6 millison students who entered the competition.
Our Environmental Studies Program upperclassmen were involved in a "marsh study" near the Karen Noonan Environmental Education Center, a twenty-acre marsh habitat in southern Dorchester County. The Center was once one of the great Chesapeake Bay hunting lodges, renovated to its new purpose in 1995. This is one of about five remote and spectacular Bay locations we use in our Program.
This intensive three-day study on the Chesapeake is undertaken in conjunction with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and fulfills the field requirement for our Environmental Studied Certificate Program. Faculty leaders pictured here are Mr. Paul O'Hearn and Ms. Pam Demske.
Our kindergarters and second graders created and our deacon blessed a beautiful prayer flag to be delivered to a St. Mary’s parent who is in the US Navy and is currently deployed in Africa. Our prayers and gratitude go to the entire family!
The Spanish National Honor Society led a school wide fundraiser for a nursery in Paraguay in a Redemptorist Parish. The school raised $2,023 for this worthy cause.

St. Mary’s High School teacher, Stephanie Lotze, was selected as the Anne Arundel County Independent School Teacher of the Year at the 30th Annual Excellence In Education Awards.
We are so pleased to share the news that 14 sophomores were inducted into the Parvis Scholars Program. Named in memory of Rosemary Parvis, St. Mary's Teacher of the Year 1991-1992, the program confers recognition and honor upon the most intellectually promising leaders of St. Mary's High School.
We are proud to announce that sixth grader Julia Bucht was selected as the Barnes & Noble Annapolis winner of the My Favorite Teacher Contest for her essay about John Buzzelli!
Julia will read her essay at an awards ceremony on Thursday, May 12, at 4 pm. John and Julia will both receive award certificates.
Julia’s contest entry has also been submitted for entry in the next step of the national contest.
We had a very special guest reader in our firs grade—Josh Gad who does the voice of Olaf from Frozen! We are so grateful to him for visiting and to the Porto family for sharing their very funny friend with us. It is never too soon to think about the future. Our career day featured speakers from the fields of technology, communication, as well as many others. A special thank you to our keynote speakers and St. Mary's parents, Colonel Stephen Liszewski USMC, Commandant of Midshipmen and Richie Petitbon, Owner and President of Petitbon Alarm Company!
Each year, our seventh grade class visit our nation's capital to learn about the country's history and government. The trip always includes a visit to Arlington National Cemetery to honor those who have served our country. This year, we had the special honor of presenting a wreath to be placed on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. For our students, this was a very real lesson in what it means to serve others and our great country.
On Wednesday, March 4th the inaugural cohort of the St. Isidore Cyber Program gathered to kick off cyber studies at St. Mary’s High School. Mr. Kevin Nolten, Director of Academic Outreach at the Cyber Innovation Center, met with students, parents, faculty, and staff to discuss the importance of cyber education and the outlook for cyber careers.
Our students filled up their lighthouse banks and raised over $4,000 to benefit the Light House homeless shelter's "Have a Heart for the Homeless" campaign! As the days get colder, we are so happy to do our part to help.
After months of careful preparation, our inaugural First Lego League (FLL) Robotics Team (pictured her with their coaches) participated in their first competition against 29 other teams on January 9th. It was a great experience!
We recently celebrated our 10th annual "Life Week" dedicating time and prayer to the sanctity and gift of life—from conception to natural death. We are also preparing the for the March for Life on Friday, January 22nd. The high school is closed that day, but we are taking a group to the March.
