English as a 2nd Language Information

St. Mary's English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is designed to help newcomers to the Annapolis area meet their English speaking, listening, reading, and writing needs. The program also provides parishioners and other volunteers the opportunity to offer educational services to new immigrants in the local community. Newcomers interested in learning more about the program are encouraged to contact the coordinator. Anyone interested in volunteering with the program or who knows of a student who might benefit from the English-language instruction should also contact the coordinator for further details.

    Levels 1A,1B and Literacy:
    New Beginners 
    Level 2: Advanced Beginners
    Levels 3-4: Intermediate
    Level 5: Advanced

    Days: Tuesday – Wednesday evenings
    Time: 7:00 -8:30 pm.
    Place: St. Mary’s High School
    Class Year: September - May
  • Instruction Benefits

    • Free classes; charge to purchase textbooks.
    • "Side by Side" textbook series for Levels 1-4
    • Variety of material for Advanced Class
    • Different teachers nightly
    • New beginner classes are taught bilingually in English and Spanish
  • Mentoring Activities

    • For students who need special attention - i.e. literacy work, specialized vocabulary.
    • Mentor-student meet weekly to work on specific needs

Registration for New Students

St. Mary’s ESL program will be offered in a BLENDED format (one day in the classroom, one day online) during the Fall Semester.
Because of the social distancing, classes are going to be limited so please register if you know that you can assist both days to class. If not, you can always register for tutoring one-on-one.

El programa de ESL en St. Mary’s será ofrecido en forma HÍBRIDA (un día en el salón de clases y un día en línea) durante el semestre de otoño.
