Davis, Berzins chosen to receive Touchdown Club of Annapolis high school awards

This was already shaping up as a big week for Timber Berzins. On Wednesday, the St. Mary’s standout is set to sign to play football at the Naval Academy.
Unbeknownst to Berzins, this week got off to an even better start on Sunday morning. During a brunch at West End Grill, the senior defensive end was selected as winner of the Al Laramore Memorial Award as the Most Outstanding Lineman in Anne Arundel County.

Berzins was chosen by vote of the county’s 16 public and private school head coaches. It was an extremely close competition for the Laramore Award with an initial round of voting resulting in a three-way tie. That necessitated a second round of voting and Berzins came out on top by just one vote.

“This is a tremendous honor for Timber and our program,” St. Mary’s head coach Jason Budroni said. “Timber is an outstanding football player and I think he is very deserving of this award.”
