As each day passes, Corey Childs further imbeds himself in the Annapolis area soccer community. Childs, a former All County and Baltimore area All Metro midfielder with Broadneck, has officially been named as St. Mary's boys soccer coach.
"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Corey Childs as the Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Soccer team at St. Mary's High School, "said St. Mary's director of athletics Allison Fondale in a press release. "Corey brings great energy, passion and enthusiasm to the game of soccer and the St. Mary's community. Corey is a talented coach with a strong work ethic and dynamic personality and is committed to the mission of St. Mary's. I am excited about the future success of our boys' soccer program."
Childs has been a busy young man when it comes to youth and prep soccer. A University of Georgia graduate with a degree in sports management, Childs worked, played and coached briefly in Memphis before returning to the Annapolis area. In the past few years, he has coached the Chesapeake Science Point girls team as well as multiple club teams. He is currently the general manager of Annapolis Soccer Club, coaches the Maryland Rush U16 boys team, and is an assistant on the Maryland Olympic Development Program U12 boys team.
"We welcome Corey Childs as the leader of the Men's Soccer Program," said St. Mary's principal Mindi Imes. "We believe his passion for coaching soccer and mentoring young men are the combination that will equate to excellence for our students both on and off the field.
Despite all the work he has done recently in the Annapolis area for youth soccer, Childs knew he wanted to get back into coaching at the high school level, when the right opportunity came along.
"I have had several great conversations with Allison and Principal Imes, and they have been extremely supportive with the vision I have for the club," Childs said.
No stranger to success, Childs and his Broadneck teammates won two region titles in three varsity seasons, reaching the 2005 state finals.
"I am excited to meet the players and get started with training this summer and see what we can do. There is a great opportunity to both win and be an integral part of the community of Annapolis.
