St. Mary's celebrates Maryland Day

Maryland Day is a legal holiday in the U.S. state of Maryland.
It is observed on the anniversary of the March 25, 1634, landing of the first European settlers in the Province of Maryland, the third English colony to be settled in British North America.

Our St. Mary’s 4th graders took part in Maryland Day by making mini-posters for the Maryland Day theme “Made in Maryland” and their artwork was on display in the Charles Carroll House on the grounds of St. Mary’s.    Charles Carroll, was the only Roman Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence.  The Charles Carroll house was open to the public this past weekend.  A scavenger hunt encouraged visitors to find their way through the Carroll House and discover how the family made their fortune in Maryland.  The students learned a great deal of the history of Maryland Day and the importance on our community.

Special Thanks to our fourth grade teachers Mrs. Cannelli, Mrs. Doherty and Mrs. Bisson as well as parent volunteer Mrs. Morehead.
