Sarah Heary Named St. Mary’s Head Varsity Volleyball Coach

St. Mary’s High School announced today that Sarah Heary will join the school as head varsity volleyball coach. Heary will take over for Rebekah Kruder, who led the team for the last four years.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sarah Heary as head varsity volleyball coach,” said St. Mary’s Athletic Director Allison Fondale. “Sarah brings Division I ACC volleyball experience to St. Mary's, having played at Duke University for four years. It has been a pleasure to get to know Sarah better through the interview process. She is passionate, positive, organized and excited to lead our volleyball program. She is committed to St. Mary's, our mission and to our volleyball student athletes."

St. Mary’s High School Principal Mindi Imes also noted, “We are excited to have Sarah Heary lead our volleyball program. Sarah proved her athleticism on various courts and now she will inspire the next generation to love volleyball the way she does.  Sarah's enthusiasm and positive approach to sports will create a catalyst for excellence for the Saints."

Heary’s career in volleyball is extensive. Playing in high school at Mount St. Mary’s High School in Little Rock, Arkansas, Heary helped her team capture a Division 4A state championship, receiving the state All-Star Game MVP award. She then received a full athletic scholarship to Duke University, where she played Division I college volleyball for four years, securing an ACC Championship. While at Duke, Heary also served as a coach for high school summer volleyball camps. Heary is an experienced sales professional with over 10 years of recruiting and sales experience in the I.T. and telecommunications industry, previously serving as a Senior Account Executive at TEKsystems. Heary holds a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University.

“I am very excited to have this opportunity to be the next girls head volleyball coach at St. Mary’s High School.  I’m so grateful to Athletic Director Allison Fondale and Principal Mindi Imes for entrusting me with this program,” said Heary. “They have shown great faith and confidence in my ability to lead and mentor these talented athletes, and I look forward to building on the exceptional track record of success established by Coach Kruder.  To be able to share my passion and love for a sport with young ladies who are excited to learn and grow is truly special and humbling.”
