St. Mary’s Elementary School Fourth-Grader, Eleanora Downs, Named a Knott Scholar

St. Mary’s Elementary School is excited to announce that fourth-grader, Eleanora Downs, has been named a Knott Scholar. The Knott Scholarship Fund awards four-year, full-tuition scholarships to academically talented Catholic students who wish to continue their education in a Catholic school within certain areas of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Applicants of the highly competitive award must meet strict criteria including scoring in the 94th percentile or above in Total Reading, Language and Total Mathematics on a nationally standardized test, and must receive an A or A+ in all major subjects. Eleanora was selected from among hundreds of applicants from across the state.

Eleanora is excited to continue attending St. Mary’s through the scholarship and further her education, especially in some of her favorite subjects: Reading, Math and Physical Education. She notes that she enjoys St. Mary’s because of the attention and dedication of the teachers, who are “always willing to help you and explain things” thoroughly, and the emphasis on spirituality. “I like how we learn to believe in God,” she says. When she is not busy with schoolwork, Eleanora loves to be outdoors, playing lacrosse and basketball. In fact, she was at lacrosse practice when she discovered that she had been selected as a Knott Scholar. Eleanora hopes her hard work and commitment to her education will lead her to a career as an astronomer one day.
