Welcome to the St. Mary’s Guidance Department. Our team consists of the Director of Guidance - Mrs. Megan Bowers (’95), School Counselor - Mr. Michael Stallings (‘86), Director of College Counseling - Ms. Kelly Hawse, and Registrar - Ms. Coleen Yazurlo. We are proud of our students; commitment to academic excellence and believe our department is an extension into the social, career, college and faith aspects of our students’ experience at St. Mary’s.
The counselors provide one-on-one counseling from the first moment a student enters St. Mary’s, beginning with an introductory conference. Each student is assigned a counselor for four years to assist with academic issues and to guide the student through improvement strategies, academic course selections, scheduling, and standardized testing. Conferencing with parents, students and teachers promotes communication and clear-cut academic goals for students who need intervention. Students will work with the same counselor for all four years; this allows the counselor to build a strong relationship with the student and their parents. These relationships are a tremendous benefit in the ongoing process of guidance and counseling. Counselors also provide personal and caring intervention and, when requested, they identify appropriate community resources for further assistance.
We encourage an “Open Door” philosophy and each day we look forward to working with the
St. Mary’s students and families. God Bless and Welcome to the St. Mary’s High School Guidance Department.
