Welcome to the St. Mary’s Guidance Department. Our team consists of the Director of Guidance - Mrs. Amelia Noemer, School Counselor - Mr. Michael Stallings (‘86), Director of College Counseling - Ms. Kelly Hawse, and Registrar - Ms. Monique Geiger. We are proud of our students; commitment to academic excellence and believe our department is an extension into the social, career, college and faith aspects of our students’ experience at St. Mary’s.
The counselors provide one-on-one counseling from the first moment a student enters St. Mary’s, beginning with an introductory conference. Each student is assigned a counselor for four years to assist with academic issues and to guide the student through improvement strategies, academic course selections, scheduling, and standardized testing. Conferencing with parents, students and teachers promotes communication and clear-cut academic goals for students who need intervention. Students will work with the same counselor for all four years; this allows the counselor to build a strong relationship with the student and their parents. These relationships are a tremendous benefit in the ongoing process of guidance and counseling. Counselors also provide personal and caring intervention and, when requested, they identify appropriate community resources for further assistance.
We encourage an “Open Door” philosophy and each day we look forward to working with the
St. Mary’s students and families. God Bless and Welcome to the St. Mary’s High School Guidance Department.

Health and Wellness

We promote healthy development in all aspects of our students’ lives. This includes everything from personal decision-making to mental health and social pressures. We review the support needs of our students continuously through observations and conversations. Based on our findings, we adapt to make sure that Saints continue to get the best support available.

Staying Connected, Getting Involved

Keep in the loop of your student to ensure student success and parent awareness in four easy ways.

  1. Use the mystmarys online portal- check grades, see assignments, test calendar and syllabi
  2. Read the monthly newsletters -what to look forward to in the coming month in all areas of the school.
  3. Review the weekly bulletins- it is the most up-to-date schedule of events at a quick glance.
  4. Join our Parent Faculty Association (PFA) and/or St. Mary’s Athletic Association (SMAA) - volunteer to meet other families and support our school community.

Peer Tutoring

Through the Peer Tutoring Program, qualified students provide tutoring in math, sciences, English and languages. Peer tutors will be assigned to students for whom the teacher feels it is an appropriate support. This program is  spearheaded by the National Honors Society Students. Teachers offer tutoring in the Math Lab two days a week.
St. Mary’s Parish, a Catholic congregation served by the Redemptorist Order, includes St. Mary’s Church and St. John Neumann Mission Church. St. Mary's Elementary and High School located in downtown Annapolis, Maryland, serve students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through 12. Anchored in faith, rooted in tradition, and committed to excellence, our programs build lifelong learners who are servant leaders.
