St. Mary's LIFE TEEN

Youth Ministry is more than just teens coming together to eat pizza and play games.  Yes, that is a part of ministry, but this youth ministry is so much more!  As a Redemptorist Parish Community we incorporate the charisms of the order by reaching out to the abandoned, the needy and welcoming them into a community of faith.  The youth of this culture can identify with feeling a need for true community and St. Mary's Youth Ministry strives to give them that community through a LIFE TEEN environment.  Please check out our Youth Ministry Website

Youth/Family Mass

The LIFE TEEN youth Mass is a school year Mass.  It will run from September 23rd, 2012 through April 28th, 2013.  If you have middle school or high school aged students we encourage you to add the Youth/Family Mass to your Sunday Mass schedule. The Mass will be at 5:00 P.M. at St. John Neumann. PLEASE NOTE: Life Nights will not begin on September 23rd when Mass starts.  Life Nights will begin Sunday, November 4th

Please contact the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at 410.269.1632 for a schedule.

LIFE Nights

All High School teens are invited to our LIFE Nights at St. John Neumann church immediately following the 5PM Mass.

Our regular LIFE Nights start off with 30 mins of social time(pizza, sodas, and music) every week. Then , depending on the topic of the evening we pray, watch short films, play games, hear a talk, and get in small group discussions. Our goal is to grow closer to Christ in order to be with Him in heaven! We would love to have you join us from 6:00-7:30pm!

Some More Information About the Program

St. Mary's Youth Ministry uses several resources for its Youth Ministry Program. One of its main resources is LIFE TEEN. The number one goal of LIFE TEEN is to lead teens closer to Christ.  We encourage teens to embark on a journey of faith, building a relationship with God through Jesus Christ and His Church. At a weekly LIFE TEEN Mass, teens experience the depths of God's love through the Word, the teen community, and the Eucharist. All are welcome!

CONFIRMATION

Remote Preparation in 9th Grade

The Archdiocese of Baltimore requires that a candidate for Confirmation, in the ordinary course not RCIA, receive religious instruction at a Catholic school or parish religious education program both the year before, and the year of, receiving the sacrament.  Consequently, those parishioners in ninth and tenth grades at public or private schools should be enrolled in the LIFE TEEN program described above.

Immediate Preparation for and Reception of the Sacrament in 10th Grade

The immediate preparation for the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation begins with the orientation of the small group leaders and the two parent/candidate orientation meetings in December. The program is then offered to all parish youth entering the tenth grade regardless of the school they attend.

The preparation process is one of intensive faith formation and consists of five small group meetings, a retreat, a service project, an interview with a member of the parish staff, a letter from the candidate to the Bishop explaining the candidate’s desire to be confirmed, as well as a rehearsal for and reception of the Sacrament.  For each candidate’s spiritual growth and understanding of the sacrament, the small group meetings and the retreat experience are crucial.  This is borne out verbally during the interviews and in writing in the letters to the Bishop, as many candidates reveal very poignantly how they feel ‘closer to God’ as the result of the prayer and service opportunities that are at the heart of the preparation.

Next year the twin celebrations will take place on Saturday, June 22.  For further information, please call our Coordinator of Confirmation, Colleen Mitsopoulos at 410-990-4063 or e-mail her at cmitsopoulos@stmarysannapolis.org
