Welcome to the St. Mary’s HS Guidance Department! Our team consists of:
  • Mrs. Amelia Noemer: Director of Guidance
  • Mr. Michael Stallings (‘86): School Counselor
  • Mrs. Kelly Hawse: Director of College Counseling
  • Mrs. Erica Lynn: Registrar and Guidance Assistant
  • Mrs. Brooke Richardson: Learning Specialist
We are proud of our students' commitment to academic excellence. Our department supports the academic, social/emotional, college/career, and faith aspects of our students’ experience at St. Mary’s.

The counselors provide one-on-one counseling from the first moment a student enters St. Mary’s, beginning with an introductory conference. Each student is assigned a counselor for four years to assist with academic issues and to guide the student through improvement strategies, academic course selections, scheduling, and standardized testing. Conferencing with parents, students, and teachers promotes communication and clear-cut academic goals for students who need intervention. Students will work with the same counselor for all four years, which allows the counselor to build a strong relationship with the student and their parents. These relationships are a tremendous benefit in the ongoing process of guidance and counseling. Counselors also provide personal and caring intervention and, when requested, they identify appropriate community resources for further assistance. We strive to bring mental health awareness to our students, parents, and faculty through special presentations, guest speakers, educational curriculum, daily conversations, athletics, and other events.

We encourage an “Open Door” philosophy, and each day we look forward to working with the St. Mary’s students and families. God Bless and Welcome to the St. Mary’s High School Guidance Department!

Health and Wellness

We promote healthy development in all aspects of our students' lives. This includes everything from personal decision-making to mental health and social pressures. We review the support needs of our students continuously through observations and conversations. Based on our findings, we adapt to make sure that Saints continue to get the best support available. We also partner closely with our Health teachers in a commitment to provide mental health curriculum to our students. Students learn about depression, anxiety, body image, healthy relationships, and substance use prevention, among many additional mental health topics.

Staying Connected, Getting Involved

Stay in the loop regarding your student’s grades, school events, and community support! Here are four easy ways to stay updated:
  1. Use the myStMarys online portal: Check grades, see assignments, view the test calendar, and review each course’s syllabus
  2. Read the monthly newsletters: Check out what to look forward to in the coming month in all areas of the school.
  3. Review the weekly bulletins: Find the most up-to-date schedule of events at a quick glance.
  4. Join our Parent Faculty Association (PFA) and/or St. Mary’s Athletic Association (SMAA): Volunteer to meet other families and support our school community.

Peer Tutoring

Through the Peer Tutoring Program, qualified National Honor Society (NHS) students provide tutoring in math, sciences, English, and world languages. Faculty appropriately match students with their peer tutor, and the program moderator supervises all tutoring sessions. Teachers also provide daily office hours after school for students seeking additional academic support.
