AUGUST FOOD DRIVE for the Light House Shelter - Request for Volunteers

The St. Vincent de Paul Society ministers to the needs of the poor in our community in several ways, including providing food to the Light House Shelter for distribution to clients.  The parishioners of St. Mary’s have been very generous in past food drives, including record donations of 850 bags of food during the March food drive.  Plans for continuation of food drives are to have two food drives a year, alternating between St. Mary’s and St. John Neumann’s. The upcoming food drive is scheduled for St. Mary's Church with empty grocery bags (listing needed items) being handed out at weekend Masses on August 16 & 17 and donations being brought to St. Mary's Church Masses on August 23 & 24.
In order to maintain the great success of the food drives, volunteers are needed to hand out empty grocery bags on August 16 & 17 and to receive and transfer donated bags of food on August 23 & 24.  Parishioners are asked to help at a Mass of their choosing, either one or both weekends. We need volunteers on both weekends at all the Masses at St. Mary's Church - 5pm Saturday and 7am, 8:30am, 10:30am, 12:30pm, and 5:30pm on Sunday. Individual volunteer time is very short and can easily be combined with attending Mass.  If you are able to help, please contact Sam Davies at 410-266-5163/sam1964@juno.com. Many of you have helped with food drives in the past and we invite you to help again.  If you have any questions about the food drives, please contact Elaine Larison at 301-353-1042/enlarison@aol.com

Your assistance in feeding the less fortunate is truly following Pope Francis’ guidance that  “. . . we must help one another.”  Thank you for your generous help.

"When I was in prison you visited me."

The St. Mary's Prison Ministry answers Jesus's call to reach out to those who are in prison.
We are looking for more volunteers who are interested in bringing the gospel and communion to the inmates at the Jennifer Road Detention Center.  The commitment requires a Saturday every other month from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A volunteer would need to become a Eucharistic Minister and have a police check. If interested please call Frank Piazza @ 410-703-8104 or Claudia Noel @ 443-994-4882.

"For when I was hungry, you gave me to eat."

The Annapolis Light House Shelter relies upon groups within the Annapolis area to provide dinners for the residents and for those who are staying at the shelter as part of the Winter Relief program.
St. Mary's parishioner Karen Risher is willing to coordinate a new group of parish volunteers to periodically provide dinners to the Light House Shelter.
If you are interested in participating please contact Karen at 410-263-0656, or e-mail her at kobrisher@verizon.net This is an excellent opportunity to carry out Christ's command to us to Feed the Hungry.
