Mrs.Hughes'Kindergarten

 

Welcome to St. Mary's kindergarten.  My name is Carter Hughes and I teach All-Day Kindergarten. I have been teaching here at St. Mary's for over twenty years.  I have certainly seen many changes in our curriculum, especially over the last several years. Our basic subjects are reading, math, religion and science.

Our reading program will take us from letter recognition to reading and writing simple sentences by the end of the year. We use the McGraw-Hill reading series that presents the same six global themes throughout each year in grades kindergarten through six.  They are: experience; connections; expression; inquiry; problem solving and making decisions.

The math program includes reading and writing numbers, simple addition and subtraction plus introducing such concepts as time, money and fractions. 

Religion permeates all that we do.  Our school wide theme for this year is "Many Parts, One Body In Christ".

We're looking forward to an exciting year. This website highlights our schedule, school events and activities. I hope you will find it useful and visit us often. There are some great links for students and parents on the left.
