Summer Math Review
2002

June 2002
Dear Students and Parents,
This is an official challenge for every student in St. Mary’s Elementary School to actively practice his or her math facts and skills during summer vacation. Continuous reinforcement of the facts will help with mastery and enable students to learn new concepts more quickly. The facts will no longer be a stumbling block, but rather a tool to success.
There are a variety of ways to practice Math:
· flashcards
· math games
· math facts on cassette tapes
· timed fact tests
· computer games
· math workbooks such as the Summer Math Skills Sharpener
· web sites such as * funbrain.com
* coolmath4kids.com
* Aplusmath.com
* mathsurf.com
· “holey” cards which are folders of various math facts with a hole for the answer. Paper is placed between the folder and answers are written inside the hole and onto the paper. These can be checked and reused over and over.
· everyday experiences involving travel, telling time, cooking etc.
We invite you to use your imagination, too!
Our plan is to celebrate this
effort in the fall with a special “Math Day”!
Please keep track of your summer math work by using the attached log. Record the date, type of activity and parent signature. This log should be returned to your teacher during August conferences or on the first day of school. We are “counting” on you!
Sincerely,
